Monday Morning Introduction

It is Monday morning and I am officially in the final stretch. This weekend I will lace up my desert boots, grab my rucksack, and drive to Miami to report for duty. I will join six-hundred of my closest friends for a fun-filled year in the sunny Persian Gulf.

Between now and then, I will spend my time doing a balancing act between finalizing plans and packing duffel bags on one side and spending quality time with my beautiful wife and wonderful kids on the other. There are things that I will miss while I am away – kayaking the canals and lakes around my house, enjoying delicious red wine and great food at local restaurants, or relaxing at a coffee shop enjoying their fresh, black brew – but it is the time spent with my family that I will really miss. Hiking and camping, going to the movies, or just lounging around the house are the small but precious things that cannot be replaced.

This project, The Sandstorm Chronicles, is a venue for me to share my thoughts and experiences with the people I’ve left behind. This will not be a documentary that details my day to day schedule, although that stuff will drop in from time to time. Instead, I anticipate this thing moving randomly between the humorous and the thoughtful, the pertinent and the insignificant, and anything in between. So stay tuned, strap in, and put your seat backs and trays in the upright and locked position, because this journey is ready for take-off…
